Raising funds to raise rural skiers – help us build a new Rental & Repair Shop.
Our vision for a new-and-improved facility. You can make this dream a reality! – Artwork by K.L Cornelius
For fifteen years, Anthony Lakes Outdoor Recreation Association has been dedicated to making the magic of the great outdoors accessible to kids of all ages in and around Baker City and North Powder. In any given year, our programs serve more than 1,500 local youth, and more than 30,000 people overall. The most popular of these programs take place as part of the winter ski season at Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort, where 50% of our low-and-no-cost school program participants are learning to ski and snowboard for the first time. These kids depend on us to provide space, equipment, instruction, and support to make their experience shine.
Students from Keating Elementary are some of the 300 kids we outfit weekly in the current shop.
While we wouldn’t change a thing about the mountain itself, the buildings we use every day are another story. After nearly a century of use, a lot of them need at least a little love. And one of them – the Rental & Repair Shop that outfits hundreds of kids every week – needs more than that. It needs a total rebuild. That’s why we are working to raise $1.5 million to build a bigger, better Rental & Repair Shop and brand-new Youth Center with our local construction partners, Sid Johnson & Co.
After 80 years of making winter dreams come true, the current shop is ready to be retired.
Thanks to the generous support of Travel Oregon, The Leo Adler Foundation, and the Wilson Family Foundation, we’re already halfway there. All that’s missing is you.
When you donate to this project, you’re not just helping to build a new building. You’re building on the hundred-year legacy of Anthony Lakes, and helping us guarantee top-notch outdoor recreation opportunities for new generations of kids and families for years to come.

What Community Members Are Saying
“If you have never been to Anthony Lakes to ski, you should come. Come on a Friday morning, a ‘Kid Day’ as the locals call it. You will witness hundreds of school kids shuffle through this building with so much excitement and appreciation they are fairly bursting. It is a beautiful sight. ALORA makes it affordable for kids. That is their mission, and that is why they need help building a new rental shop.” Eric Gustavson, 6th Grade Teacher and Ski Club Organizer, Cove School District
“At Anthony Lakes, the kids learn they can do hard things. It’s just amazing to see the kids’ progress, to see them not give up, to see them encourage each other.” Mrs. Lay, Teacher & Ski Program Chaperone, Keating School
“Our small school has a crew of ski and snowboard enthusiasts who look forward to the winter season all year. The rental shop is a wild mess of kids trying to get their gear and get on the slopes. This building is in desperate need of an upgrade. Many of our students are low-income and ALORA really provides a lifelong love for these kids in the middle of the darkest and coldest months.” Jaime Gustavson, Teacher & Ski Program Chaperone, Union High School
