The Gift; ALMR Sustainability Project
Helping to maintain a thriving and affordable local ski experience
In the fall of 2010, the Baker County Board of Commissioners voted to take over Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort after it was bestowed by the previous, private owners. In efforts to bolster both local and regional tourism, the County moved forward to form a 501 (c)3 non-profit under the direction of the existing Baker County Development Corporation. While County Commissioners appointed the ALMR Board of Directors, no other county involvement, including funds, have been used to operate the ski area.
Established in 1963, ALMR has been in operation for over 50 years. Throughout these years, ALMR has witnessed ownership and management changes, stellar winters, and not so great winters. As with any business, upkeep and capital expenses are inevitable. Preparation for less than desirable seasons, maintenance of equipment, preservation of old buildings and the like are all necessary remediation at a ski area.
Anthony Lakes strives to continue to provide a unique and affordable, family friendly ski area to its surrounding counties and beyond. It is imperative that community relations and partnerships are maintained and nurtured to continue our treasured community asset.
